How to Set Up Spot UV Print Files
To ensure your Spot UV prints come out exactly as expected, please follow these setup guidelines carefully:
1. Create Two Files (Required)
- File 1: Your full-color artwork (CMYK)
- File 2: Spot UV mask file (black & white only)
2. Spot UV Mask Setup
- Use 100% black to indicate where Spot UV will be applied
- Everything else should be white or transparent
- Do NOT use gradients, shadows, or grayscale—solid black only
3. Vector Format Recommended
- Create your Spot UV layer in Adobe Illustrator or similar vector software
- Convert text to outlines
- Use clean, sharp edges for best results
4. Alignment is Critical
- Both files must be exact same size and layout
- All elements must line up perfectly between artwork and UV mask
5. Bleed & Safe Area
- Include 0.125″ bleed on all sides
- Keep important elements inside the safe margin
6. File Formats
- Preferred: PDF, AI, or EPS
- Make sure fonts are outlined and images are embedded
7. Naming Your Files
- Example:
design_front.pdfspotUV_front.pdf
Pro Tips
- Spot UV works best on logos, text, patterns, or highlights
- Avoid very small text or thin lines (they may not register cleanly)
- For best results, pair Spot UV with matte or velvet finishes
